Dogs should behave like humans

It’s strange how we teach our dogs to shake hands, but yet castigate them when they say an enthusiastic hello in their own language. How far does our humanisation of our animals go? Sniffing bums, or god forbid crotches, of human companions is taken as some reflection on our upbringing of our canines, and yet this is normal behaviour for them as a species. Shaking hands/paws is much more polite – in our eyes anyway. Coffee time now, then writing.
